Victory Garden

Welcome to the new Picnic House gardening section – Victory Garden. We know that a lot of
our followers (myself included!) are well into growing their own food and it’s something that
continues to become more popular.

We wanted to reflect that with our website by starting our own gardening section. My garden has made me think about food in a different way: about how it grows and what it stands for. I have a better understanding for what truly goes into “putting food on the table” and am a lot less apt to waste anything knowing all the hard work I put into producing it!

I’ve always made an effort to buy local, seasonal, fresh produce but hesitated on gardening because I didn’t think I could grow it properly myself. Clearly there is something to be said for the family farmers of America – but here I am growing my own purple cauliflower! With every crop I try I have successes and failures. But I look forward to using what I learn for the next season.

I hope that Victory Garden will become a place for you to ask questions, find answers, share tips and experiences, and learn from one another. As always, we want to continue to inspire and foster the quest for simple, homemade, soulful food.

If you’re an old pro, a new gardener or an unexpected new gardener – have a go at it! One of the most beautiful pleasures in life is to grow something, pick it, and cook it. It might sound silly and romantic, but I truly believe that core principle connects us all on a basic level.

With that being said, I present to you…. Victory Garden. I hope you enjoy it. Happy Growing!
